The first edition RoboCrops brings high-tech companies and universities together with growers and investors in Westland and Delft. Professionals and students will be challenged to the limit in the extensive programme full of hackathons, substantive sessions and matchmaking, which take place simultaneously at the World Horti Center Naaldwijk and RoboHouse.

Accelerate robotics

The goal of RoboCrops is to accelerate the development of robotics in greenhouse horticulture. RoboCrops focuses on the hardware: sensors, robot arms, grippers, autonomous vehicles and the decision-supporting software that is needed to control the robots.

There are three areas in which robots or robotic collars can be classified during RoboCrops. These are “Sense” (sensors with which the robot observes the environment), “Think” (processing the data from sensors, often with the help of Artificial Intelligence / Augmented Reality) and “Act” (performing an action, such as cutting leaves or picking vegetables or cut flowers).

Growers, tech companies and students

For growers, there is a programme at the World Horti Center on April 23, during which they receive an extensive and in-depth presentation of the state of affairs with regard to the development of robotics (for greenhouse horticulture). Tech companies and universities can demonstrate the technical possibilities and challenges on 24 April.

On both days, students in RoboHouse in Delft will be active during a large hackathon organised by TU Delft and the WUR. During the hackathon they will unleash their expertise on various challenges and thereby contribute to accelerating the development in robotics. On April 24 they pitch their hacks for a professional jury at the World Horti Center. There is also room in the programme for matchmaking between the various parties.
