The Unforeseen Effects Dossier is an investigative journalism practice that uncovers and documents the unintended consequences of robotics in the workplace. Launched last year with two stories that ventured into the worlds of defence and healthcare, the dossier is a partnership of RoboHouse with the School of Journalism in Utrecht. Our current edition features a story about workers at Port of Rotterdam, written in Dutch.

Dat er in de Rotterdamse haven flink gerobotiseerd en geautomatiseerd wordt is op papier een godsgeschenk. Werkgevers pronken met stijgende productiviteit en havenarbeiders hoeven nu niet meer dag in dag uit zakken koffiebonen op hun rug te verslepen. Maar hoe ziet de echte praktijk eruit? Wat zijn de gevolgen voor de arbeiders? We namen drie verschillende niveaus van robotisering in de haven onder loep om zo zelf te zien of robotica de havenbanen beter en aantrekkelijker maakt, of juist minder.
